Newspaper Article: The State of Retirement Readiness

Retirement Readiness

We have provided an article for you to submit to the business editor(s) of your local newspapers or magazines. I’ve also provided a script of what to say when you speak with the business editor as well. You can download both.

Since such a large percentage of the readers of your local newspaper are over the age of 50, this article would be extremely beneficial to have published in any of your local newspapers or magazines. It’s very educational in nature and addresses the issues that retirees say keep them up at night. They would find this article to be very educational and extremely informative.

Realize we’re talking about an issue that is the number one concern for 9 out of 10 individuals over the age of 50. Their number one concern is their retirement and they’re worried they haven’t socked enough money away to maintain a comfortable standard of living in retirement.

Since that is their greatest fear and this affects such a huge percentage of the population, this article would benefit a large percent of their readers.

We have provided two articles.
One for those in the US, and one for those in Canada.

Feel free to modify, edit, and trim the articles as needed. I would rather provide you with too much content than too little.

Action Steps To Take

Here are the steps to take with the business editors of your local newspapers or magazines.

Step 1: Download the appropriate article for your country. You’ll be downloading a Microsoft Word document.

Step 2: Modify the last paragraph in the article and personalize it with your contact information, phone number, email address and the domain name of your OnDemand Seminar.

Step 3: Submit to your compliance department for review and approval.
(NOTE: The article was assembled from the actual script of your OnDemand Seminar, How Big Is Your Retirement Shortfall?)

Step 4: Contact the business editor of your local newspapers and magazines. I would contact them by phone as my first option.

Step 5: Use the following script as you speak with the business editor.

(NOTE: I would actually encourage a face to face meeting possibly over lunch instead of a phone call, as this might turn into a situation where you could become the “go to” person the newspaper reaches out to for a quote on any situation that arises having to do with the economy, the stock market, or financial topics in general. Newspapers like to have “local experts” they can turn to when situations arise so always keep that possibility in your mind as you speak with the business editors)

Step 6: Email the business editor the word document of the article and give them permission to publish it in their newspaper or magazine.

Step 7: Follow up with a phone call a couple of days later. Don’t wait too long to follow up.

Summary

You have nothing to lose and everything to gain. You’re not going to get the article published in every paper, but if you play your cards right, it’s a win win for everyone involved. The readers will get quite the education about the state of retirement readiness. The paper will have an article that their readers will enjoy, and you will be positioned as the expert when it comes to Retirement Income Planning in your area.
